Under guiding legislation in Ontario concerning Best Practices for public safety and risk management, any person in a position of trust requires high-risk screening prior to volunteer participation.
The Parish Volunteer Screening Committee is responsible for guiding the volunteers through the steps of applying for the position being interviewed by the Screening Committee Coordinator and one other committee member. If the position being applied for is a position of trust, the committee will also assist in getting police clearance for the volunteer.
The screening ministry is also responsible for following with 3 references that are provided by the volunteer applicant during the initial screening process. As well, the screening committee requests that the volunteer complete an annual offence declaration after the initial police information check for the following five years.
