From the very beginning, Christians have gathered together to hear the word of God, and from the very beginning, there have been individuals entrusted with the task of reading the Word. Those given this task are called Lectors. The lector is appointed for a function proper to them, that of reading the word of God in the liturgical assembly. Accordingly, they are to proclaim the readings from sacred Scripture, except for the gospel in the Mass and other sacred celebrations.
Lectors proclaim the Word of God using a strong and clear public speaking voice. They are dedicated to practicing and preparing during the week, prayerfully reflecting on the reading and considering its meaning, prior to proclaiming the Word of God.
