We are a new Catholic parish, having just completed our 3rd year of
coming together as a dynamic and flourishing community of faith in
the Markham East area. If you live in the area, or within the
boundaries of our parish, I invite you to join us as we come
together as God’s family to pray and live our faith.
We have the special distinction of being the first Catholic church in
North America to be bestowed the name of Blessed Frédéric Ozanam,
who founded the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. As many of you are
aware, this organization began in 1833, and still operates today in
150 countries caring for the poor and less fortunate while respecting
individual dignity and treating everyone as sons and daughters of our
loving God. The annual feast day of Blessed Frédéric Ozanam has been
designated by the Church as September 9th, so every year going
forward, we will be honouring and remembering him in a special way
on that day.
The excitement of building a new parish also comes with some
apprehension of the many challenges yet before us. First and
foremost, we are here to build and nurture a faith filled community
and to this end, I know God will guide us well. Then, with every little
bit we all contribute of our time, talent and treasure, we will one day
feel God’s loving presence in our new church structure which will
endure as a welcoming presence for generations to come.
We would love for you to be part of this special mission of forming a
new parish family dedicated to giving glory to our heavenly Father
and being His hands, feet, and heart to those in need.
Our weekend Masses take place at St. Brother André Catholic High
School located at 6160 – 16th Avenue in Markham. Our Mass times
are Saturday, 5 p.m. and Sunday 9 a.m., 10.30 a.m. and 12 noon.
For Masses during the week, we are also at St. Brother André Catholic
High School, in the chapel on the second floor, on Mondays,
Wednesdays, and Fridays at 9:00 a.m. with the First Friday of each
month (only) at 7:00 p.m. However, due to the current situation with
the Covid- 19 pandemic, daily Masses have been temporarily
suspended at the request of the York school board.
As we lead our parish into its 4th year, I continue to ask for your
prayers and humbly assure you of mine. I encourage all our families
of the parish to consider praying One Hail Mary a day for the
intentions of the continued growth of Blessed Frédéric Ozanam
Parish, both physically and spiritually.
Thank you for believing in the power of prayer, and of community.
God bless and protect you always.
Blessed Frédéric Ozanam… pray for us.
Fr. Joseph Grima
